HOW TO FIX USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED IN WINDOWS

When I connect my Mobile via USB its shows “USB Device Not Recognized” error.

To rectify it I started uninstalling/updating drivers and then reinstalling them. But that didn’t work. You may also see in Device Manager that the device shows up as an “Unknown Device”

To fix this Problem do as follows,

The motherboard is where all of hardware of the computer is connected to, including the USB ports. Sometimes the motherboard needs to be “rebooted” because something goes wrong, i.e. all your USB ports suddenly stop working.

First Turn off your computer using Shut Down or pressing the Power Button and unplug the computer from the power supply. It does not mean just turning off your computer because modern computers don’t really turn off when you press the power button as the motherboard still gets power.

Wait for a minute then reboot your system .Now when you connect any device via USB the computer will detect.

  8. This also worked for me. I’m not sure if it mattered, but at first I got the same “USB Device Not Recognized” message, then I plugged the device into a different USB port and the usual “Found New Hardware” stuff was activated.

  12. Tried this several times. Some times for hours long. No luck. Laptop went to sleep overnight, next morning, could not restart. Had to remove battery and power to reboot. Since then, all USB ports do not work. Tried other ports, shows drivers installing, then pop up device not recognized.

  17. After several hours of trying everything and looking at dozens of posts. Didn’t work first time, you have to unplug everything and remove the battery if on a notebook. Tried it again and it worked. Saved me having to be a new KVM. Many thanks.

  18. Well I know this is all over the net about fixing this but I’ve come to realize what is causing it. It is a Disk Drive under Device Manager called ASAP USB Device.

I’ve found that without even rebooting, changing anything, or even shutting down. For some people shutting down and leaving off may not be an option.

Try this. Go to \Windows\inf folder and search or highlight something and type disk.inf – once you find this file right click on it and pick install, it should load up your missing or unknown device.

Hope this helps and it will keep you from rebooting or changing anything. This is used when everything works fine for months then upon a reboot out of nowhere you get the error, it may also fix issues for those that have other issues with USB devices not being recognized.

  21. I’m having this problem with my Acer Aspire 3100 and I’ve wiped it twice already and the problem still persists. I used the Acer Recovery Disk, which I paid $40.00 to obtain, and the USB error did not go away.

I will try the power supply shut down first and if it doesn’t work, I’ll try the disk.inf trick.

I will keep you posted on the results. Thanks so much for the help, this is the only useful forum I’ve found so far.
